Data-oriented programming in the context of Java evolution: how DOP was born within Project Amber, which language features appeared along the way and how they pull each other along. A short theory part on what DOP has under the hood and how algebraic data types make code safer. As a running example, a hierarchical access control system is implemented and traced through its changes from Java version to version.
